Network Server Performance Monitoring, Alert Management and Downtime
Analysis for Windows XP and Windows 200X network servers
WarningTrak
is an alarming system for Intel based Windows XP servers (monitoring
both statistics and Event Logs) that notifies a SNMP monitoring
workstation and/or sends a notification to selected people or destinations
(includes pagers and programs) when a user setting is met.
The
WarningTrak agent (program or service) detects alarms and notification
is sent to the desired destination. The WarningTrak Maintenance
Utility is used to define alarm thresholds and view reports. Alarm
thresholds include both warning and critical settings with multiple
alarm destinations. Additionally, you may view a statistic being
tracked at any time.
For
historical collection and trend analysis of performance statistics we recommend
TrendTrak
Alarm
Settings
Each statistic can have two threshold
settings : Warning and Critical. The threshold can be either a maximum
(ceiling), like System / %Total Processor Time, where notification
is given when the value EXCEEDS the threshold setting or a Minimum
(floor) value, like Memory/Available Bytes, where notification is
given when the value drops BELOW the threshold. Regardless of the
type of alarm, each alarm includes a length of time the monitored
statistic must maintain before notification is sent.
Intelligent
Thresholds
Setting alarm thresholds can be a guessing
game without the benefit of past statistical activity. When used
with Intrak’s TrendTrak, WarningTrak provides suggested alarm threshold
settings using a seamless interface to historical statistical data.
By selecting the Suggestion button for a selected statistic, a graph
appears showing historical values and the suggested value.
Alarm
Notifications
Alarms are detected and notifications
sent by WarningTrak to the desired destination : Alarm Log , Event
Log , Windows XP Messenger Service, SNMP, or Digital Pager, Mail
and Program Triggers.
Reports
Various reports are also available for
viewing or printing. Reports can be obtained from the Downtime Log,
Alarm Log, and Alarm Definition. The Downtime Log by itself is worth
the price of the product. This report contains a percentage of server
uptime/downtime by month and a detailed list of events can help
solve server problems whilst documenting maintenance downtime. The
detailed events include : server uptime, WarningTrak (program or
service), load and unload times and server downtime.
When
used, the Alarm Log provides a number of selection options : Time
Order (newest alarm first), Reverse Order (oldest alarm first) and
Include/Exclude various alarm messages (Warning Alarms only, Start/Stop
Entries only, Critical Alarms only).
